Meditations

OSHO Active Meditation Groups

Why Active Meditations?

“We may appreciate that moving inwards is the way to go. But to sit down for twenty minutes, to close our eyes and attempt to still our incessant thoughts and feelings and restless body, is impossible.  In fact, trying to relax creates more tension, as we do battle with ourselves and then emerge from the attempt feeling demoralized, feeling that ‘meditation might work for others, but it is not for me!’

Sound familiar?”                         -- Maneesha James (www.activemeditation.com)

“Meditation is not an effort; it is not an activity.  Rather, it is a deep surrender... to be simply here and now – that's what I call meditation... So I have devised a new means... to be active so madly that the mind that is hankering to be active is thrown out, out of your system.  Only then, in a deep catharsis, can you fall down to inactivity and can have a glimpse of the world that is not of activity.

Once you know it, you can move into it without any method; once you have the feeling of – how to be just here and now without doing anything – you can move in in any moment; or you can remain in it anywhere. Ultimately you can be active outwardly and inwardly, deeply inactive.

But in the beginning you will have do a very paradoxical thing, and the paradox is this: you have to be active, madly active, violently active, so that everything is released...”

-- OSHO The New Alchemy: To Turn You On

OSHO Active Meditations have been scientifically designed to enable us to consciously express and experience repressed feelings and emotions.  Each routine involves body movements such as shaking, twirling, Sufi dance, breathwork, walking, free dance, jumping, stillness and relaxation.

Nirav Nadam facilitated OSHO Active Meditations in Pune, India, in 2002 when he worked as an in-staff resident of the OSHO Meditation Resort, giving individual treatments and conducting large group meditations.  He has been giving these meditations in his own healing center in Venezuela for the past 8 years.

OSHO Active Meditations offered are as follows:

Dynamic:  Is a powerful way to kick-start your day, providing an outlet for tension and withheld emotions. A great energy-booster! Weekdays 7:00 am, weekends 8:00 am.

Kundalini:  A gentle yet effective way to release all the accumulated stress of your day.  Every day 5:00 pm.

NadaBrahma:  A sitting method in which humming and hand movements create an inner balance and stillness. Mondays & Thursdays 10:00 am. Sundays 12:00 pm.

No-Dimensions:  This fun active meditation is based on a Sufi technique of movements for awareness and integration to create a state of “no mind”. Wednesdays & Saturdays 10:00 am.

Chakra Breathing:  Deep rapid breathing and body movement, accompanied by musical sounds to open and bring awareness and vitality to the chakras. Tuesdays and Sundays 10:00 am.

Vipassana:  A mild meditation, done in silence with a focus on breath and slow movement, bringing you to a state of deep relaxation to nurture your sacred self.  Fridays 10:00 am.

Each meditation lasts 60 minutes, preceded by 5 minutes of instructions. A 15-20 minute Q&A will follow for those who wish to remain.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or thick blanket. Best done before a meal.  Active Meditations will start promptly at the designated time, so please plan to arrive a little early.  Thank you!
